The Vice Chancellor asked all Designers to come up with an idea to update the branding at the University of Chester. This would need to include sub brands for the various other sites as well.
The overarching logo kept the same shaped shield as the current logo, to show a link. The bold outlines would help make it stand out and would also be easy to see when scaled down. I looked at what made each of the University's sites unique and created symbols representing these within the logo.
I decided to use a single colour logo as this is usually needed to save on costs when creating promotional materials. It's also much easier for contrast and overlaying on different colours or images.
I have created a few examples to show how it would look on prospectuses, letterheads, posters and on signs on University buildings.
This was a wall mural designed for Marriss House, a campus dedicated to teaching Nursing, based in Birkenhead. The brief asked for a design that showcased the attractions in Birkenhead.
The University of Chester's Media Department asked for two logos to be created for a radio station and a podcast. After researching current trends and what would work for radio I came up with the attached. The colours are on trend and the text stands out and is easy to read. The branding is bold and eye-catching.

Student Shout Out is an email newsletter and microsite to keep students at the University of Chester up to date with news and events that are happening in and around the University.
I designed the overall look, creating a nice simple but bold logo. The colours I chose are bright and stand out against the bold black and white logo. I designed and coded the email newsletter template which is designed to be populated by staff members in the Communications team. I made sure the email was clean and easy to read with each section clearly separated by colour.
The microsite also gives an opportunity for students to write blogs on their personal experiences of being at University.
The University worked with Cheshire West and Chester Council to create videos for students. These were to make students aware of recycling and where you can find information if you’re unsure of what to do with an item you want to get rid of. The videos were shown on the University of Chester and Cheshire West and Chester’s social media accounts.
The university design an e-card each year and this was the first year an animated version was designed. The theme was deck the halls of residence, I drew a range of different accommodation in Illustrator and then animated it in After Effects.
I was asked to animate some explainer videos aimed at new students. These were all created in Illustrator and animated in After Effects.
I worked alongside a Web Developer to build Student News, a website to keep Students up-to-date with current University of Chester news relevant to students. I designed the website and I also create and update all the content.
The University has a process for accepting any suggestions staff may have to improve the University. A staff member suggested having a wall on campus to show a timeline of the University’s achievements over the years. I came up with an idea to keep it simple but eye-catching, on each panel it includes an illustration demonstrating what happened in that year. This was all designed in Adobe Illustrator.
The University wanted to hand out free keep cups for freshers in University accommodation as an incentive to avoid using coffee cups when purchasing coffee on campus. I was asked to design a cup that showed off the buildings on each of the campuses.
Chester Zoo were opening a new enclosure for their lions and needed a brand for this. I decided to play on the word ‘mane’ and say ‘Welcome to the mane attraction’, I also drew the animals in illustrator and came up with designs for a facebook ad, web banner for their website and a Snapchat Geofilter.
This was commissioned as they really liked the style of the Birkenhead mural so I drew up Chester attractions in a similar way. This was drawn in Illustrator.
